Thomas “Tom” Short, a man whose quick wit was as legendary as his love for fishing, passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on January 20, 1959, Tom’s life was punctuated by a keen sense of humor, watching the Mets, and the doting heart of a grandfather.
Tom’s journey through life saw him starting out as a teenager working at Hooks Drug Store, then moving through chapters at Liberty Bell and Citizens Energy. But it was not just the workplaces that defined him; it was his personality—quick with a comeback, forever ready with a laugh—that left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
He was a man who could hold his own in any conversation, lighting up rooms with a joke or a cleverly placed remark. Yet beneath the humor was a soul devoted to family and fishing lines cast in quiet waters. Becoming a grandfather was, by his own recounting, the proudest milestone he ever achieved. His grandchildren—Chandler, Cain, and Claire—were the joy that brought sparkle to his days and warmth to his heart.
Tom’s life was also a tapestry of close family ties. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 45 years, Barb; his sons Brian Short and Gary (Kellie) Short; and a devoted mother, Elise Short. His siblings—Sharon Short, Pat Mathias, Edie Short, Diane Chance, and Deb Short—along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, carry forward his lively spirit. Tom’s father, RC Short, preceded him in death, but his memory was undoubtedly a guiding presence throughout Tom’s life.
We remember Thomas “Tom” Short not just for the milestones or the laughter but for the person who made every moment richer and every story better told. His was a life well-lived and fondly remembered—a legacy of love, humor, and the enduring bond of family.
