INDIANAPOLIS – William Arnold Sterns, 83, passed away at 9:59 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on April 21, 1940 to the late Eston Owen and Margaret Elsie Arnold Sterns in Beech Grove, Indiana. William was united in marriage on January 3, 1991 to Carolyn Sue Armstrong at Oak Park in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1958. William honorably served his country in the United States Army from August 15, 1963 to June 16, 1969. Professionally, he worked in the construction industry specializing in insulation for many years.
William was an avid IU, Chicago Cubs and Jeff Gordon fan. He loved God, his family and friends. William enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, golfing, solving crossword puzzles and going on trips. His hobbies were writing, drawing and shopping online at Amazon. A couple of William’s favorite things included watching construction progress and McDonald’s coffee.
William was funny, smart, creative, generous and adventurous. He always had a welcoming smile and ready to give hugs. William was the most kind and sweetest man. Those near and dear to him called him, “Pops”.
William is survived by his daughters, Jenny Lindsey and Sarah (Rick) Wilkins; sister, Nancy Hawhee; brother, John Sterns; 4 grandchildren: Rachel (Paul), Heather, Shane and Ryan; 8 great grandchildren: Aaron, Lillian, Bryson, Ayden, Arria, Ava, Brooklynn and Jesseray; 3 nephews: Robin, Bret and Erik; and 3 nieces: Sara, Christine and Emily. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Sue Sterns.
Williams friends and family may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with John Wright officiating. Burial will take place at New Crown Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
